Almost out of Indiana, just a few miles from Illinois.
Cool morning with headwind from the west, but it turned colder and stronger as it shifted from the northwest mid-morning, in the 50's all day. But route 6 on a Sunday was quiet and flat with groves of trees blocking the wind. Then due to construction I had to detour south to route 30, big divided highway with lots of traffic but wide shoulder. US 30 is the Lincoln Highway, the first transcontinental route, constructed in 1913. I had meant to pick it up anyway later in the day, since I can follow it to close to my next destination, my friend Norden in DeKalb IL.
The statue of ironworkers sitting on an I-beam high above what would become the Rockefeller Center was inspired by the photo "Lunchtime." It was completed just after 9/11, and was set up on temporary display near the World Trade Center as a tribute both to those who constructed the towers, and those who were clearing the debris. It now sits on the roof of a restaurant, Industrial Revolution Eatery and Grill, in Valparaiso IN.
And a final comment on Indiana: very friendly people, the first to show much curiosity in what I'm doing out here.
Following your every move, Jim. Keep up the great work! Stay healthy!
