Marion IA mile 1284

The gnat outbreak in Iowa is due to all the rain, plus a  sudden warmup so they all hatched at once. Merciless, all day long, whenever I stop. So I'm in a motel again.
Cool morning, NW wind, but then midday sun. Open, rolling country, mostly corn. Red wings patrol their territories and complain as I go past.
This is Grant Wood country:  I went by the little schoolhouse he attended starting age 5.
