Showers lingered until 9am, then out into the damp and strong SW breeze, heading west. Briefly on a bike trail that paralleled Route 30, until it turned SW toward Des Moines. Then on back roads, watching the rain storms ahead and behind. Went through the imaginatively named small town of State Center. Stopped later to let a storm move across the road, but still got wet several times before reaching Ames.
Staying tonight with new friends Reggie and Barbi Greenlaw, to whom I was sent by a woman I asked directions from outside Marshalltown. Nice friendly place Iowa!
