Storm last night, then light rain, ending at 8:30am, delaying my start. Wind not so bad though it picked up midday, hard from SSW.
But enough weather whining.
As your devoted traveloguer, I'm trying to keep this entertaining. But I should try to give some idea of the actual experience on the road. A cyclo-tourist focuses on the condition of the road immediately in front, the traffic around them, and only then the weather. Roadside attractions are the least of my concerns, though they make interesting photo ops. But another aspect of this reality is, sadly, roadkill. PA was mostly deer and possum; OH groundhogs and raccoons; IN has added variety: birds, squirrels, turtles, even a toad.
And a rarity, fortunately: I passed by a 3 car collision this afternoon, at intersection with side road. There were 4 other cars stopped, lots of people. Seemed minor, side impact and fender damage, a few people sitting down; so I kept moving. But ten minutes further down the road 2 ambulances, fire engine and fire rescue truck came through.
And a note about Nappanee: there is an active bicycle culture here, at least among the Amish!
